With over 100 years of experience among our clinical and technical staff, we know how to choose among today's high-tech componentry to best suit the needs of our patients. We draw our experience from caring for people in all walks of life with amputations: from pediatric to geriatric amputees and from extreme athletes to people seeking improved appearance and social function. We know the importance in matching the desires of each amputee with the proper design that can help to turn their goals into reality.

Achieving the best fit is the most basic goal of our staff. The socket is the foundation on which the rest of the prosthesis is built. Our Prosthetists and Technicians have extensive education, training, and experience to help each amputee obtain their goals. We utilize several tools in the design of a socket. We can use one of several methods of casting: pressure casting, vacuum casting, hand casting, and digital scan (Tracer CAD) casting. From the initial casting we use a transparent "test socket" made of pliable thermoplastics which allows the Prosthetist to view pressure points, contact points and to ensure that sensitive areas of the residual limb are accomodated. Once the desired fit is achieved, the test socket is filled with plaster to replicate the shape and contours of the residual limb. It is from that mold that the definitive socket is formed typically using durable, lightweight carbon fiber composite materials. Carbon fiber is the most lightweight durable material available; however we have other materials at our disposal to select from.

Adapters are strategically built into the pre-formed socket for attaching the specific componentry for the needs of an individual prosthetic user. These components can be terminal devices, pylons, knees, feet or various other components. Our Prosthetists and Technicians have catalogues of components of various weights, sizes and functions to choose from and with our experience we can choose the most appropriate for each individual's goals. Some of the more technically advanced componentry, such as artificial intelligence knees, require warranty servicing, and follow-up appointments will be scheduled until the prosthetic user is acclimated to the device. Patients are informed in the care of their specific devices. We take pride in being there for our patients throughout these important stages of progress. Our Prosthetists keep detailed progress notes for our patient files and the attending physician is kept informed of developments and concerns. We also repect the right to privacy of our patients, and our facility abides by all regulations in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
